CBM Food and Family Carnival 2009
Date and Venue: 4th October 2009 @ BM Country Club
The CBM Food and Family Carnival 2009 was alumni's biggest event thus far. The alumni (committee and some volunteering members), together with Penang State Library (co-organizer) and some parents from the SMK Convent Bukit Mertajam PIBG made this event a success.
CBM Alumni chairman Datin Seri Zainab Abd Kader was the program chairman who oversaw both working committees and co-organizers from the CBM alumni, CBM’s PIBG and the Penang State Library.
The objectives of this event:
- The CBM Food and Family Carnival 2009 was a part of our initiatives to sustain a mini scholarship program for Convent BM school students, as well as the alumni fund
- This carnival aimed to earn publicity for the alumni in order to gather and reunite more former students and staff
- Membership drive for the Persatuan Alumni Convent Bukit Mertajam
The theme was Developing Children’s Minds Towards A More Knowledgeable And Intellectual Society; aimed at raising literacy awareness and collecting funds for children’s education (mini scholarship program and bursaries)
Emphasizing the importance of developing children’s educational needs, as well as to create awareness of the services and facilities offered by the state public library
We were also helped by some local celebrities, namely Ning Baizura, Tony Eusoff, Zizan Nin, Fauziah Nawi and Farah Alya As’ari who lent their star power for this event. They participated in jumble sale (Ning Baizura’s wardrobe collection), auction, story-telling sessions, traditional games and theatre workshops.
The celebrities, they were so sporting and friendly. They were invited by our alumni president and came voluntarily with no fees. Ning Baizura sang 4 songs by random requests, haha one of it "Madu dan Racun", and one classic mandarin song, which was sung so beautifully.
There are many people to thank and credit. They all work very hard, expecting nothing in return. Some forked out quite a sum of RMs, some came to help day and night, some became saviours on the day of event, etc... just to make sure this event run smoothly, all in the name of charity. That's the spirit :-) In return, we gained: experience, new friendships, understanding, team spirit....etc
We managed to collect roughly around RM 50,000 from this event and the money goes to alumni fund. With the help of this new fund, we are now able to sustain the mini scholarship program for at least another 3 years.
It was a successful event, in which we did not only gain financially but also in term of relationships, understanding and experiences. Everyone involved worked very hard to ensure the event run smoothly especially with the participation from the crowd which was amazing.
With continuous supports and involvement from the alumni members, we hope events and activities like this will be sustained in the long run.
